I got a call around 1 am that Ximena's water had broken and that her contractions were quickening. Clint said they were heading to the hospital and I agreed meet them there. When I arrived I was greeted by their wonderful doula Robin. After a short wait, the hospital admitted Ximena and showed us all back to her room. Ximena had an amazing support team. Clint was by her side through every contraction. I love watching a husband truly be present and in the moment with his laboring wife. I really think it strengthens their bond.

Ximena delivered at UNM hospital. I was very impressed with the hospital staff's "hands off" approach. Ximena labored in the positions she needed to, as the staff offered essential oils. She was then allowed to push her baby out in the position that was best for her. I can see now why they recently received "baby-friendly" status.

Ximena's labor was incredible. She labored with such strength and power. Even crying at the end of a contraction, saying how happy she was. (I started crying at this point, how could you not). Elena was welcomed into the world surrounded by love and pure joy.

It is always a privilege to be welcomed into a couple's birth space. It is a truly sacred and intimate moment in time. To witness a new life enter this world is something I will never tire of. It is something I will never lose my excitement over. I'm so glad that more and more people are realizing the importance of capturing this moment in time.
